Ski childcare provided by nannies
Nannies can offer a practical and convenient childcare option when you are taking family ski holidays.
They are a convenient choice because usually they will look after your children in your accommodation – this means no organising everyone to get to creche first thing in the morning. If your accommodation is not situated within easy access to the ski slopes or to other childcare facilities, you may wish to consider hiring a private nanny.
They're well-experienced in settling children. Some will arrive bringing toys and activities for the day, so you don’t have to worry about bringing those with you on your ski vacations. You should check whether you need to provide your own toys and activities when you make your booking.
Resort tourist offices should be able to help with enquiries to find suitable carers. You might find that an independent childcare company operates in the area you are visiting (for example in the French ski areas of Les Portes du Soleil or Meribel in Les Trois Vallees). Alternatively, if you book your holiday through a specialist ski travel operator, the carers looking after your child will be employed by the that company.
You’ll find that British ski operators conform to British guidelines on child ratios. Often the policy is one per two children under the age of four, changing to one per four children over the age of five. You might find that one carer would not be sufficient to care for your children if their ages span these ranges.
Whether you make your own arrangements or book care through a specialist ski operator, we’d recommend checking references and qualifications so that you’re happy with the level of care that your child will receive.
You should provide with as much information about your child’s routine, likes and dislikes as possible. That way, your child will settle happily.
Finally, remember to provide a mobile number in case you need to be contacted urgently, and emergency contact details back home, just in case.
