Family ski vacation package in Canada

go on, try it - well worth the flight

If you’re looking for a family ski vacation package in Canada and you’re based in the UK, then the simplest thing to do is to look at where you could visit with one of the main tour operator travel companies.

That’s because you can arrange everything you’ll need in one go.

A good place to start is the looking at the regular high street tour operators like Neilson or Crystal.

Or for a wider range of Canadian resorts, we can recommend taking a look at the North American ski specialist Frontier Ski.

One thing's for sure, if this is your first Canada ski vacation, you're most likely to want to go again.

If you go down the UK tour operator route, then flights, accommodation and transfers are included as basic. You then add on lift passes, lessons and equipment hire you'll need to complete the package.

This is definately the easy way to arrange your ski holidays, but you may be limited on which resorts you could visit. If so, why not try the direct approach?

Can I buy a package direct from a resort?

Yes, just look at the reservations section of a resort website and you can build a package to suit your family. If you're happy to make your own travel arrangements, need to arrange childcare or simply want more flexibility, this option makes sense.

What are some popular family resorts in Canada?

Ski vacations from UK tour operators do focus on well-known resorts. Banff and Whistler are particularly popular with UK skiers, though in part that's simply a reflection on the resorts chosen by the operators.

Alberta ski resorts
You’d fly to Calgary for Lake Louise and Banff, or Edmonton for Marmot Basin near Jasper.

British Columbia ski resorts
You can fly direct to Vancouver from London for the British Columbia ski resorts of Whistler Blackcomb. Kimberley, Fernie, Panorama and Kicking Horse are nearer to Calgary, and the regional airport of Kelowna for is nearest for Big White, Sun Peaks and Silver Star.

Quebec ski resorts
Quebec is a shorter flight from the UK, and will have a familiar feel if you've skied the European Alps. You'd fly to Montreal if you were going to Mont Tremblant.

Ontario ski resorts
At the time of writing, no UK tour operators sell ski holidays here. That's probably because the ski areas are mostly small local hills good for practicing if you happen to be in the vicinity already. The resorts of Blue Mountain and Mount Pakenham both have good reputations for families.

Is is practical for UK families to take a ski vacation package in Canada?

We've really enjoyed skiing here and are looking forward to our next visit - but - things are a little more complicated, not to mention expensive with the family.

If you've skied here before, you'll know what we mean when we say that these are worth in effort in getting there:

  • Volume of snowfall

  • Excellently groomed trails

  • Friendly service

  • Ace ski tuition available in English
With the family, though, there are a few things to seriously think about:
  • It takes between six and ten hours to fly direct from London depending on where you go.

For us, a family ski vacation package in Canada is more appealing with older children. It's just our personal opinion, but we didn't relish the idea of flying long-haul with a couple of toddlers.

  • The value of Sterling to the Canadian dollar could make your ski holidays seem great value for money. Or not, depending on the exchange rate.
